Star Russell's Crowe sorry

GLADIATOR hunk Russell Crowe yesterday issued a TV apology for his hotel phone rage outburst. The hot-headed actor, accused of hurling a phone in the face of porter Nestor Estrada, spoke out on a US talkshow. He told host David Letterman: “I’m extremely sorry for this whole incident. I regret everything that took place. I understand that at the moment Nestor and his family are under a great deal of pressure and I’d like to apologise to them directly.“Hopefully at some stage I’ll be able to apologise directly to Nestor, but he’s not answering his phone.”
Oscar-winner Crowe, 41, is facing a $1million lawsuit and possible seven-year jail term after being charged in New York with assault and criminal possession of a weapon — the phone. He allegedly threw the handset after he was unable to ring wife Danielle in Australia from the city’s Mercer Hotel at 4am.Mr Estrada, 28, needed stitches in a cut.Kiwi Crowe, due back in court in September, added on TV: “This is possibly the most shameful situation I’ve gotten myself in — and I’ve done some dumb things.”The actor admitted he was worried by the prospect of jail. He added: “It’s all a very deep and dark chasm from this point.”
